Teaching is focused on areas of the National Curriculum that your child finds difficult with carefully selected resources that challenge but don’t overwhelm. All teaching is conducted in a fun and supportive way with a friendly, open atmosphere where any question on any topic can be asked by your child in confidence. Explanations are often given in more than one way to aid quicker and better understanding of key concepts.
Short cuts are discussed, as are common misconceptions and “secrets”, such as exam technique for GCSE, SATs or the 11+ passed on to the tutee. We operate a spiral curriculum whereby topics are revisited in a timely fashion to make sure that they are consolidated and retained by the tutee.
Sessions are normally taught using EdAlive software on Dell computers for the first few minutes as a warm up. Each child logs onto their own personal program that intelligently and diagnostically targets their areas for improvement. The main part of the session follows with a carefully crafted plenary at the end reiterating the key points.
Homework tends to be given each week, so that your child can practice the
techniques learned in that particular session. Please note that standard
sessions are 45 minutes long. Should you require a longer period, as some
parents have opted for in the past, we would be more than happy to oblige!
All extended sessions are offered on a pro rata basis.
